Meet Sensei Julanne Poissant

Sensei Julanne Poissant began her karate journey at the age of seven in 2014 at Centre de Karaté Perez, the first So-Kyokushin dojo in North America under Shihan Hugo Perez. Through years of dedication, discipline, and perseverance, she earned her 1st Dan Black Belt in 2019 and successfully completed her adult black belt examination in 2022.

An accomplished competitor and passionate martial artist, Julanne has competed in dozens of tournaments and attended numerous high-level seminars, continually pushing herself to grow both on and off the tatami. Her commitment to excellence earned her the Karateka of the Year Award in 2017, and she became the first student in her dojo to join the prestigious Moko Fight Team after completing an incredible 197 hours of training in a single year.

Throughout her journey, Julanne has trained under world-renowned instructors including Hanshi Daigo Oishi, Shihan Alain Bonnamie, Shihan Tomoyuki Monma, Shihan Cameron Quinn, Shihan Tom Callahan, Shihan Julie Lamarre, and Shihan Sylvie Lamarre, continually expanding her knowledge and experience in Shinkyokushin karate.

As an instructor, Julanne brings enthusiasm, patience, and a genuine passion for helping every student succeed. She believes that karate develops confidence, discipline, resilience, and respect—qualities that extend far beyond the dojo. Her goal is to inspire every student to challenge themselves, enjoy the journey, and discover what they are truly capable of achieving.

“Every class is an opportunity to become stronger, more confident, and better than yesterday.”
